Speech Synthesis
James L. Flanagan, Lawrence R. Rabiner (eds), 1973

A Classic Text
Published in 1973, this text contains details of all of the known methods of generating speech by computer. Since the 1970s, a great deal of work has been done in coding speech, such as used in cell phones, but the basic elements of all current techniques are covered here. The other area which has been somewhat expanded since (but is still not satisfactorily solved) is the treatment of prosodic structure. This text covers the basics of text-to-phoneme conversion and plain text analysis, but does not go deeply into either.
